A dual mass flywheel wears alongside the clutch and can cause rattles and vibration at idle. We carry out dual mass flywheel replacement on almost every make and model, and we check the flywheel every time the gearbox is off.

Dual Mass Flywheel Symptoms
The most common sign is dual mass flywheel noise: a rattle at idle that changes or stops when the clutch pedal is pressed. Drivers often notice the pedal or floor vibrating, the car juddering as it pulls away, or a knocking sound the moment the engine shuts down. Some of these symptoms are shared with a worn clutch or a failing release bearing. We determine which part is at fault before fitting anything.
Clutch and Dual Mass Flywheel Replacement
The flywheel sits behind the clutch, so both are reached with the gearbox off during a clutch replacement. A worn flywheel will quickly ruin a brand-new clutch. If yours needs replacing, we tell you before going ahead, and we will not undertake any work beyond the agreed job until we have discussed it with you.
How We Check the Flywheel
With the gearbox off, we check the flywheel for free play between the two masses and grease leaking from the centre. The clutch face is checked for heat marks and cracks. If it is within limits, it stays on the car. If it needs replacing, we tell you before going ahead.
