Transmission & Drivetrain Servicing

We provide transmission and drive train servicing and repairs on almost every make and model, from the clutch and gearbox through to the driveshafts and differential. On 4x4 vehicles this also includes the transfer box and Haldex coupling. Accurately diagnosing the fault is the first step, so we can explain your repair options before any work begins.

Our Transmission & Drive Train Services

Signs of Transmission Problems

The most common sign is slipping. The engine revs rise but the car does not pick up speed to match, especially in higher gears or going uphill. A noise that changes when you press or release the pedal often points to the release bearing.

Worn bearings, damaged gears, and synchromesh issues may cause noise, grinding, or difficulty shifting gears. Whether you are experiencing a persistent whining noise, difficulty changing gears, or a sudden loss of drive, we can investigate the issue and explain your repair options.

Transmission Warning Light and Drivetrain Malfunction

On automatic and dual clutch gearboxes, common issues include juddering, slipping, harsh gear changes, delayed engagement, and gearbox warning messages. If you experience juddering, harsh gear changes, or a delay when selecting drive, please inform us when booking. We can investigate the cause and advise whether servicing or further diagnostic work is required.

How We Diagnose Drive Train Faults

We assess the symptoms and inspect the relevant mechanical and electronic systems to identify the source of the fault before recommending any work. Automatic transmission faults may involve mechanical components, hydraulic controls, or electronic systems. We investigate these systems to determine whether the issue lies within the gearbox internals, valve body, mechatronics, or associated wiring and controls.

If a strip down is required to properly assess the gearbox, we will discuss this with you beforehand. We will explain our findings and the recommended work to enable you to make an informed decision. If we find anything else, we call you before doing any extra work.
