ZF Gearbox Service

Our ZF 8HP gearbox service includes replacing the transmission oil and filter, using the correct specification fluid for the gearbox installed, and setting the oil level at the specified temperature. The 8HP gearbox is fitted to vehicles from BMW, Jaguar Land Rover, VAG, and FCA Group, among others.

The 8HP delivers smooth and efficient gear changes; however, repairs to the unit can be costly. Regular oil changes are the most effective means of protecting it.

Gearbox oil provides lubrication, cooling, and the friction characteristics required for the transmission to operate correctly. Heat and use gradually degrade its condition, particularly when towing or driving under heavy loads.

Although frequently described as “filled for life,” ZF continues to recommend oil changes, with the appropriate interval depending on the gearbox and the vehicle’s operating conditions.

The service includes replacing the gearbox oil and filter, as well as the sump pan, which incorporates the filter. We use the fluid specification appropriate for the fitted transmission and follow the prescribed filling procedure, monitoring the oil temperature to ensure the level is set accurately.

We use genuine ZF gearbox filters and genuine ZF gearbox oil.

Our dynamic gearbox flushing machine performs a more thorough fluid exchange by replacing used oil with fresh fluid as it circulates through the transmission. This process also addresses oil retained in the torque converter and cooler circuit, which may remain after a conventional drain-and-refill service, thereby reducing the amount of old oil mixed with the new fluid. When combined with filter replacement and precise oil-level adjustment, this helps support smooth gear changes and protect the gearbox’s internal components.
