Oil & Filter Change

An oil and filter change is the simplest job we do, and it is also the one that matters most to how long your engine lasts. We drain the old oil, fit a new filter and refill with oil approved for your engine, not just one that matches the viscosity on the bottle.

Two oils with the same grade printed on them can be very different inside. Most modern engines need oil carrying a specific manufacturer approval, such as VW 504 00/507 00, BMW Longlife 04 or MB 229.51. Diesels with a particulate filter need low ash oil, and some engines with a timing belt running in oil depend on the exact specification to protect the belt. We look up the approval for your engine before anything goes in.

The engine is drained while warm so the old oil carries as much dirt out with it as possible. We fit a quality filter and a new sump plug washer, then refill to the correct level and check for leaks once the engine has run.

While the car is on the ramp, we have a quick look underneath for anything obvious such as oil or coolant leaks. If we spot something, we let you know before doing any extra work. The oil change goes into your service history, and the service indicator is reset where the car calls for it.

An oil and filter change is ideal between services, especially if you cover a lot of miles or the car does plenty of short trips. It does not replace a service. Air, cabin and fuel filters, spark plugs and the wider checks are part of an interim or full service, so if your car is due a service, book that instead and the oil is covered.
